You know, if you really want to master something, the only thing standing in your way, is yourself. It isn't the food. It isn't the weights. It certainly isn't the cardio. It's your own mind. A few years ago, like a lot of folks I graduated college and found out that the working world didn't always allow for as much 'free time'. My diet stayed the same but my workouts disappeared. I just figured I would always be young and fit without having to do much. Well, at a peak of 265 lbs, I had to take a strong look at myself. What I saw disgusted me. I took a picture and told myself I would never look like that ever again from that day forward. I stuck to it. Long story short, I competed in my first Physique competition this last weekend and placed 5th in a strong group of 10, good enough to make it to the national level and I am headed to Vegas in a week and a half! It can be done. Master your mind, and the rest is easy.

As a quick update - 2 weeks after my first show was the USA's in Vegas. I placed 14th in Class C! I am absolutely thrilled with the placement and am now back at it. I believe that I have a bit of work to do on size/sculpting, so I am in off season until spring, then back to competing! Now is the hard part - competing with my brain to stay motivated for half a year!

I like the quote "Whether you think you can or you think you can't...you're right"
I never look at the amount of weight my trainer is putting on the bar or the machine for that same reason. I don't want to think anything but the top of the next rep.
