What is ideal size for MP Competitors? This is a very simple, but difficult question to answer. Alot of factors come into play when trying to figure out exactly how much density and size you should bring with you on stage. Obviously, judges aren't looking for bodybuilders. We (judges) will be looking for fit contestants who display proper shape and symmetry combined with muscularity and overall condition. This is not a bodybuilding contest so extreme muscularity should be marked. This can be interpreted in many different ways. Regardless of how dense you may or may not be, a lot of it has to do with who is standing next to you on stage. If the lineup consists of larger, more muscular guys, then if your are larger, you will fit in, but if you are smaller you wont. On the opposite side of the coin, if you are in a class that has smaller competitors, and you are larger, it may give the appearance of being "to big" regardless if you are or not, and could hurt your placing.

I'd say about 6'2" and 200 - 205 lbs I was about 195-197 on stage at USA's, but still have a bit of trimming to do around the abs. I sure wasn't the leanest guy out there. However, I do have balance, meaning I have calves to go with the upper body. As far as I can tell, that is the only thing that saved me! Until I start seeing a real 'standard' out there winning on a regular basis, I am going to stick pretty close to what I have for size/shape, but just keep work on getting better abs, a bit more trim in the middle, and trying to get my shoulders and chest to stay put when i deplete!
