This is a question I want to ask of body builders and physique athletes. Is there room for a drink or two, once or twice a week (or ever) in the life of a pro-level physique athlete? Sometimes I just really want a glass of wine or a beer. But, if dieting and behaving like a pro means avoiding the intake of booze, I wont touch the stuff anymore.
What do you all think about this? When you do drink, how often is it? Do you drink in the weeks or months leading up to contest?

I gave up recreational drinking 18 months ago. Now only on very special occasions...reunions etc will i drink (with the exception of 1-2 glasses of red wine the night before a photoshoot). I can tell you that after 18 years of working out my body has never been more ripped than it is now. Alcohol is calories. 7 calories per gram plus it lowers fat metabolism. If you want to be YOUR BEST do the math

Ian, thanks for the answer. Why red wine the night before a photoshoot? I have been following the advice provided her and have gotten ripped. I was already in very good shape but I am seeing new and better results on a daily basis.

There is a diuretic effect from the alcohol in the wine...and the reservatrol is supposed to be good for the heart...and it seems the natural sugars from the grape provides a bit of added vascularity. This of course is a once in a while thing. Too much wine leads to weight gain.

I haven't had a drink in almost a month and I have never been more ripped and it keeps getting better.
When I first cut the alcohol; I had four samuel adams left in the fridge. One night about a week into it I had a craving. I poured all four down the drain and never thought twice about it.
After what I just read I plan on staying this way and will only have a few on very special occasions.
